Their new factory opened in January 2021, and is now in full production producing one home at Mt Cardrona Station per week.

Centrally located in Cromwell, Otago, Hector Egger specialises in manufacturing engineered timber into high-tech prefabricated structures to be assembled on-site, and because of their position in the industry and locality to the development they became an obvious partner in developing Mt Cardrona Station residences.

A company that has been innovating since its inception in Switzerland, 1848, Hector Egger’s cutting-edge offsite manufacturing solutions improve the diversity of construction options available to the market, provide cost certainty with higher quality outcomes, are sustainably focused and produce faster than traditional methods.

Engineered timber & prefabrication are relatively new processes in the construction industry, but they are quickly gaining recognition as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to traditional building materials like concrete and steel.

The manufacturing process starts with sustainably sourced wood that is milled into thin layers. These layers are then glued together, with the grain of each layer running perpendicular to the one before it. This creates a strong and stable material that resist warping, shrinking, and cracking.

Hector Egger then takes this engineered timber and uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to efficiently turn these engineered timber supplies into pre-cut frames and panels to the exact specification of Leuschke Groups designs.

Once the timber is manufactured in Cromwell, it is transported to the Mt Cardrona Station construction site and assembled into walls and structures.

Hector Egger’s expertise in manufacturing engineered timber is helping us to create sustainable, cost-effective, design-led residences that will stand the test of time. We look forward to seeing the finished product and to continue working with this innovative company on future projects.
