Lake Hayes House

Otago, New Zealand

2014

This family house on Lake Hayes is quintessentially Queenstown. Simple forms using high quality materials ensures longevity and a strong sense of place.

Extensive views over Lake Hayes in the foreground and Walter and Cecil Peaks beyond, are captured and maximised. As these views are to the south, extensive glazing is introduced to the north façade facing onto a walled courtyard. This allows north sun to penetrate into the building while sheltering and minimising noise and privacy from the busy street, Arrowtown - Lake Hayes Road.

The interior was carefully detailed by the architects using quality materials such as timber and stone to create a substantial and timeless palette. The completed building sits easily amongst its peers as a thoughtful and elegant addition to a very special part of New Zealand.
